Who's Behind
the Lens?
The Photographer Behind Monochrome Miami
I am Ernie Emad the photographer behind the lens. I began photographing in the mid-1970s with a gift from my parents. The Canon AE-1 and a roll of black and white film.
I learned photography in an era when the process demanded patience from loading film and making exposures to developing my own negatives, standing in my home made darkroom waiting for an image to appear on photographic paper.
That experience never really left me.
Today, I continue that conversation with photography through the Leica Q3 Monochrom and the streets of Miami.
Monochrome Miami brings together two things that have been constant throughout my photographic life, now spanning more than 50 years; a fascination with back and white photography and an enduring curiosity about people and the places they inhabit.
The camera has changed.
The city has changed.
But the search for the photograph remains the same.
Walk.
Watch.
Wait.
See.
Photograph.
